Are you wondering how to be more creative or looking for ways to BE creative? Here are some Bible verses and tips for when you think 'I have no creativity'.
You are a Creative Human Being
A lot of times hearing the word 'creative' can make anyone who doesn’t paint or play a musical instrument feel like they weren't created to be creative.
But I'd like to propose that you - yes, you - are a creative human being. Creativity is hardwired into your DNA whether you realise it or not. It courses through your veins and flows through your unique original makeup. And this is because you were created by a creative Creator, the inventor of creativity at its source.
At the end of 2016, I wrestled with insecurity. It fuelled my thought process and told me I wasn’t qualified or creative enough to pursue my dreams. Then I battled a series of sleepless nights from an onslaught of spiritual warfare.
The warfare isn't important, but it's what God spoke to me during that season that was. It shifted my mindset and gave me a fresh new perspective on what He wants to do in this season.
My eyes were closed and my heart was pounding, not to mention my head felt like it was going to explode. Then all of a sudden I saw the face of a young girl flash across my closed eyes. And the words "Have the courage of a courageous little girl" whispered softly to my heart.
I didn't know what it meant, so I tucked it away. But God kept pulling it back out.
For weeks I couldn't shake the image of the girl from my mind. And then images of children and a child-like mentality began to pop up everywhere. First it was a street art mural of a girl, then it was finding a playlist of songs from my childhood I hadn't heard in years.
So many signs and symbols would highlight themselves in my spirit. And all of a sudden, I began to develop a heartfelt longing to be like a child again. To go back to the beginning and live in reverent awe of life.
To live like anything can happen. Like the Creator of the universe really can part the Red Sea to the shores of our promised land. Like the God of Angel-Armies has dreams for our lives so much bigger than our own, we could never out-dream Him.
It's easy to forget sometimes just how BIG God really is. He's a God so creative that He makes each sunrise different from the last.
And this is the God who created you and me in the image of His likeness.
I realised the God-given desires I shoved away as I grew older were actually sparks of creativity implanted in me since birth. They're meant to fan the flame of my own unique God-given expression.
Because when we're young, we don’t really have a problem running wild with our God-given imagination. We do it automatically! But often the world will taint our outlook on life with the crippling stain of insecurity as we mature, robbing us of the ability to believe the impossible in our lives and telling us we're not good enough, qualified enough, competent or artistic enough to be creative and make an impact.
I think God wants to cultivate a revival of creativity in our hearts. We have the authority of His nature inside us to create. We're made in the image of a God who creates beauty up from ashes...and so can we. Whether that's through music, business, medicine, or any sphere of influence we're called to transform.
'I am sent to announce a new season of Yahweh's grace and a time of God's recompense on his enemies, to comfort all who are in sorrow, to strengthen those crushed by despair who mourn in Zion - to give them a beautiful bouquet in the place of ashes, the oil of bliss instead of tears, and the mantle of joyous praise instead of the spirit of heaviness.' Isaiah 61:2-3

I believe He wants to unlock something visionary inside of us. And it all starts with having the courage of a courageous little girl. The courage to dream, the imagine, and create in our own unique way - no matter what that looks like.
I know it's difficult to come to Him like a child. But if we grasp that childlike mindset, He meets us right where we're at and breathes life into our dreams.
It's so easy to forget that the God who created puppies, atoms and the human brain actually believes in us. And whether you're an accountant or a traveling musician, you can creatively express His image in anything you do through the power of innovation He’s placed inside of you.
So if you've never considered yourself a 'creative person' or you feel unqualified to be creative in general, I want to encourage you.
You were made in the image of a Creator...so steep yourself in the reality of Who you're created to reflect. Revisit the carefree days of your childhood – back when anything was possible, and your only business in life was simply to create.
And that, my friend, is where the magic happens.
